Anthropological Notebooks, a peer reviewed journal published by the Slovene Anthropological Society is seeking contributions for a special issue on the anthropology of food and eating, to be published in 2006.

As a Senegalese proverb says, “Life is not couscous, but it needs some laalo, that is some binding substance.” Following from this, the editors of Anthropological Notebooks are seeking articles that explore food and eating related issues in ways that demonstrate food’s ability to make connections and move across geographical and symbolic boundaries. Since hardly any aspect of human life is completely devoid of food and eating related elements, we are interested in research that looks at the world “through the food lens,” and which explores the role of food as a “universal medium.”

We are interested in contributions from all geographical areas and sub-disciplines. Graduate students’ contributions are also welcome.

Please e-mail a provisional title and abstract of no more than 300 words by November 25, 2005 to Liza Debevec.

Further inquiries are welcome.
